On Thursday, March 7, 2019, John 5 and The Creatures performed at 89th Street Collective in Oklahoma City. Las Vegas band Dead Girls Academy and Wisconsin musician Jared James Nichols joined the tour as support. Oklahoma City’s own Sign of Lies was the local opener for the night.

Sign of Lies is a local favorite who can draw a crowd to any performance. 89th Street Collective was packed early, with the line to get into the doors wrapping around the building. Sign of Lies are young and energetic with a great live show. The crowd came alive as soon as the band took the stage and enjoyed every minute of the performance.

Up next was Dead Girls Academy, a goth rock band who formed in Los Angeles before relocating to Las Vegas. Their sound is a mix of dark, hard rock and pop punk, which sucks in the audience. They deliver a strong, captivating live performance and have received a lot of positive attention from rock critics. Dead Girls Academy previously toured with bands like Falling In Reverse, Motionless in White and Issues.

Jared James Nichols was one of the highlights of the night and nearly stole the show from headliner John 5 and The Creatures. Nichols blues rock style and guitar prowess immediately wowed the crowd. Fans couldn’t get enough of his guitar driven music and high energy performance. Nichols guitar skills no doubt caught the attention of John 5 and resulted in him providing direct support during the Invasion Tour. After the set, several people in the crowd talked about how good Nichols was and the great set. Oklahoma City fans in attendance that night became Jared James Nichols fans after that performance.

Headliner John 5 and The Creatures took the stage and fans crowded the front of the stage for a chance to get close to the guitar virtuoso. John 5 is one of the most well-known guitarists in rock music. He has performed with David Lee Roth, Marilyn Manson and most recently Rob Zombie. He has released eight solo guitar albums and two guitar albums with The Creatures. His other accomplishments include working as a staff writer for Chrysalis Records, working with artists like Avril Lavigne, Rob Halford, Garbage and Ozzy Osbourne to name a few.
When John 5 and The Creatures took the stage, they opened with “Season of the Witch” from the 2017 album The Creatures. Many of the songs John 5 performed throughout the set were previously released on his solo guitar albums, including “This Is My Rifle”, “Six Hundred and Sixty Six Pickers In Hell”, “First Victim”, and “Behind the Nut Love”.
With each new song, John 5 brought out a different guitar and at one point he played a banjo. John 5 is a charismatic performer who can entertain the audience not only with his guitar skills, but also his quirky personality. He performed several songs from the 2018 album It’s Alive, including “Hell Haw”, “Here’s to the Crazy Ones”, “Medley” and his cover of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It”. Fans were excited when he performed the recent single “Zoinks”. The animated music video for the single features voice cameos from Nikki Sixx, and Fred Coury from Cinderella. He ended the set with another 2019 single, “I Am John 5”.
Fans were treated to a fantastic night of entertainment, starting with local favorite Sign of Lies, followed by Dead Girls Academy, Jared James Nichols, and wrapping with an amazing performance by John 5 and The Creatures. John 5 will be on tour during the summer with Rob Zombie.
