Summer is a time for enjoying the pool, strawberry margaritas and music festivals. The City of Denton welcomes Summer Hangout 2019, a three day music fest hosted by local bar Dan’s Silver Leaf and record label, Last Chance Records, in support of the nonprofit charity Denton Music and Arts Collaborative (DMAC).

The event is 100 percent volunteer run with all proceeds going to DMAC. It is funded by sponsors from local to national levels including Revolver Brewing, Miller Lite and CareNow.

DMAC is an organization in the Denton community made up of musicians, artists and other interested community members. Their mission includes improving the livelihoods of local musicians and encouraging new artists to lay roots in Denton. Many local artists and musicians are featured on the lineup throughout all three days of the festival.

Summer Hangout is an offspring of an annual event in Little Rock, AK called Holiday Hangout. Many Country, Folk and Rock musicians for the upcoming event performed at the latter.

The festival begins June 21 at 6 p.m. with Rock and Roll artist Harry Zimm who performed at Discover Denton’s 2018 SXSW music showcase. He is followed by artists such as 1978 post-punk band Mydolls, Lee Baines iii & The Glory Fires who are currently on tour and The Red Death, a local band. The Indie Rock and Folk group, Baptists Generals, end the three day festival with a 10 p.m. performance on June 23.

Attendees will enjoy more than just musical performances on Saturday when local bar and Summer Hangout sponsor, East Side Denton, hosts a free day party between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Scheduled to perform at the party are Space country artist Kim Nall, Country singer Simon Flory and Rock artists RTB2.

Saturday is not the only day to look forward to for free events. Sunday morning features yoga, brunch and a DMAC panel set to begin right before evening performances kick off at 3 p.m.

Slobberbone frontman Brent Best, Psychedelic Rock artist Ian Moore and Thrash musician Todd May who released his solo debut in 2013 are on Sunday’s lineup.

Tickets and a breakdown of the lineup can be found here.
